Aethelrey 05 - Spoken Word

To Alfred (The Great)

Down the roads of the shade
We trudge with tears for the long past days
Upon reaching the dark gates,
I feel the running blood of Alfred the Great!

The Saxons were once depleted,
And when Alfred came, all of them greeted
Their fair king who then created
The skies and earth we all fear to be faded.

The Man spread his soulful word
To revive and teach our dear English world;
His book enlightened the court,
And unmade the pain our foes had wrought.

Down the roads of the shade
We spill the joys and miseries of our fate;
And this little attempt I made
To honour our Alfred the Great
