Ancestral Festivals

Celebrate in faithful ways,
Recounting our ancient lays,
And above all do not forget,
The beauty that our forebears left,
For us to marvel at with awe,
Bid we follow ancient rites and laws,
And through Tradition we still dream,
Of wondrous sights we’ve never seen.

See the folk joined in their crowds,
Hear their happy chants aloud!
See the love of man and wife,
Come forth to celebrate their life,
As their children held so dear,
Gather for a hearty feast,
To commemorate their family’s love,
And dedicate the day to peace.

Set aside a remembrance,
A day to honour fallen dead,
Your ancestors from years since passed,
And the noble lives they led.
Join in solemn honour gave,
To those who have come before,
Honour them and sing their praise,
And remember them forevermore.

Harken to the noble youths,
Februa clasped firm in hand,
Watch them cast it too and fro,
Purifying our sacred land,
As they drive out wicked spirits,
And restore our pious purity,
Returning our land to light,
And bringing back fertility,

See the maidens block the way,
Laughing, joking all the while,
Hoping they meet the februa,
To help them better bear a child,
Join them, all you worthy men,
The unclean shall be cast aside,
As we rejoice amongst our kin,
And bare our pious national pride.

See the noble leaping priests,
Coming forth in splendid arms,
Reciting words wrote long ago,
To protect us from encroaching harm,
See how they gleam in radiant bronze!
Protectors of this folk of ours,
At the behest of long-passed kings,
Our Salii pray to Father Mars.

To ancient days cast back your mind,
And think of a bygone time,
Before darkness took its hold,
Harken back to ages Gold,
Remind yourself of why you fight,
And celebrate return of light,
That shall come back in days to come,
At rebirth of Immortal Sun.
